Betty Jane Kirkpatrick

Betty Jane Kirkpatrick of Conyers went to be with The Lord on March 9, 2016. She was preceded in death by: parents, Ernest D. and Bess McDonald Holmes. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Jerry Kirkpatrick; her two sons, Mark Kirkpatrick and wife Janice, and Darren Kirkpatrick and wife Monty; her five grandchildren: Candace, Sarah, Kevin, Katie and Clay Kirkpatrick; her sister, Edith Bowie; and her brother, Ernest Holmes. Betty attended North Georgia College and the University of Georgia. Her working career included education and banking. At an early age, Betty became a member of the First Baptist Church of Conyers. Every Sunday for more than twenty years, she volunteered in the Children's department of the church and had a great influence on those under her care. Betty met her husband Jerry at the age of thirteen. From that time on, they were never far apart. Married at age nineteen, they began a journey that led to a wonderful family, and a host of friends; a treasure that filled their lives. Betty's greatest joy was spending time with and supporting her grandchildren. Betty and Jerry were always present for their dance recitals, cheerleading events, and soccer, baseball and football games. In their spare time, they were able to visit 48 of the 50 states and several other countries. During her battle with pancreatic cancer, Betty demonstrated a strong faith and unprecedented courage. Betty had genuine love for people. She was always available to help anyone, young or old, from any walk of life. Her smile and hugs would light up your day. She was a truly amazing woman and will be greatly missed, but she will live on in those who were privileged to know her. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that friends consider making a donation to the First Baptist Church of Conyers Debt Retirement Fund in Betty’s honor. Donations can be mailed to First Baptist Church of Conyers, 2100 Highway 138, Conyers GA 30013 A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of Conyers with Rev. Paul Purvis officiating; interment will follow at Green Meadow Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends on Friday, March 11, 2016 from 2 until 4 pm and from 6 until 8 pm at the funeral home and Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 10 until 11 am at First Baptist Church of Conyers.
