Brenda Lee Brown

Mrs. Brenda Brown, born March 16, 1941, known to many as 'Mammie' got out of the wheelchair that held her for the last 13 years and while holding the hand of Jesus walked through the door of HEAVEN on Saturday December 5, 2015. Born in Toccoa (Stephens County) Georgia to William 'Jolly' Whiten and Rilla Mae Whiten, she was the baby of 7 children. She married her husband Kenneth Michael Brown 'Mike' on October 3, 1959. They celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary this year. She is survived by her husband, Mike Brown of Lithonia; 2 daughters, Terri Johnson (Rosa Crowe-Johnson) of Covington, and Tracee Lyn Wood (Robert Jeffrey Wood 'Jeff') of Conyers; 4 grandchildren, Brenda Jane Johnson of Acworth, William 'Jolly' Johnson of Statesboro, Abbee Mikay Wood of Conyers/Toccoa Falls College, and Cassee Arbin Wood of Conyers; 1 sister, Hazel Lollis of Belton, SC; several nieces and nephews and countless others she loved and became a surrogate mother and Mammie to over the years, way too many to name but you all know who you are. She was a loving wife, mother and Mammie. She loved music (her favorite song was Eric Clapton's ''Lay Down Sally'', flowers (specifically roses and gardenias), and Reality TV (especially Dog the Bounty Hunter and Duck Dynasty). She had worked as a Beautician and Floral Designer but would tell you without hesitation that the most rewarding job and greatest joy she ever had was being 'MAMMIE'. She had been known to say that her grandchildren were God's reward to her for not killing her own kids. Due to her declining health over the years, she may have appeared frail to many people but to her family and close friends she was known to be an incredibly strong and often times stubborn woman. She was a true STEEL MAGNOLIA! Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at 11:00 a.m at Scot Ward's Green Meadow Chapel with Dr. Doug Ferguson and Andy Futch officiating; interment will follow at Green Meadow Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends Tuesday, December 8 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, December 9 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
