Brenda Lee Hammons

Brenda Thompson Hammons, age 75 of Conyers, died Saturday, November 19, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Earnest L. Hammons, Jr.; mother, Gladys Thompson; father, Mildred Thompson; stepfather, JT Thompson; brother, Wallace Thompson; and son-in-law, Frank Wright. She is survived by daughter, Beth Wright, Conyers; sons and daughters-in-law, David P. and Jenny Hammons, Conyers; Matthew E. and Cail Hammons, Eatonton; brother and sister-in-law, Herman and Ann Thompson, Loganville; grandchildren, Georgia and Collin Brown, Joanna, Jared and Julia Wright; Abbie, Zach and Kate Hammons, Lee Hammons, close family friends, Joyce Garmon; Gene and Linda Koon; and nieces and nephews. Originally from Clarkston, Georgia, Brenda made Conyers home after her marriage to Earnest. Brenda was a loving wife and a devoted mother to their three children, Beth, David, and Matt. The home that Brenda and Earnest made together was a place where the door was always open. Brenda effortlessly planned Sunday Dinners, Santa Parties and Easter Egg Hunts that brought her family - and friends who became family - together for a meal or holiday. A true southern matriarch, Brenda was a much-loved "Grammy" who showered her grandchildren with pound cakes, sugary cereal, and secret Coca-Colas. Grammy's house was never short on ice cream or most of all love and support for all eight of her squirts! Brenda retired from a career in banking where she was well-known and respected by her many customers. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Conyers since the early 1970's. For many years Brenda catered weddings, and her beautiful cakes served as the centerpieces for countless celebrations. Brenda often coached those who attempted to make her pound cake to "start with flour, end with flour" when mixing the ingredients. "Don't overbeat the batter," she warned. And most importantly, if the cake didn't turn out, there was always "junk cake" to enjoy. These simple lessons were perhaps as much about life as baking a cake. Brenda kept her eyes on Jesus and was steadfast in her faith that Christ was abundant to meet her needs. Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 27, 2022 at 3:00p.m. at Scot Ward's Green Meadow Chapel with Rev. John Mark Oliver officiating; interment will follow at Green Meadow Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends Saturday, November 26, 2022 from 5 until 8 p.m. and Sunday, November 27, 2022 from 2 until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
