Carol Anne Richburg

Carol Anne Moorer Richburg was born on January 14, 1953, to the late James F. Moorer and Mary Ethel Moorer. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Jamise Brunner and James C. Moorer. She leaves behind a legacy of love and service, cherished by her sons, Bryan Richburg and James Richburg (Shalisa); her adored grandchildren, Jayden Richburg, Cameran Richburg, Kaleigh Richburg, Ava Casey, and Carter Richburg; her dear sister, Marilyn Raines; and her devoted companion, Melvin Eady. She will also be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless friends whose lives she touched. Carol was a proud graduate of the illustrious and tenacious South Carolina State University, where she cultivated a lifelong commitment to education, service, and leadership. Her passion for giving back extended well beyond her college years, as she remained an active and dedicated member of the South Carolina State University Alumni Chapter serving as the Parliamentarian for both the National and Atlanta Chapter. Through this organization, she worked tirelessly to mentor students, raise scholarship funds, and strengthen the bond among alumni. She believed in the power of education to transform lives and took great pride in helping young scholars reach their full potential. A Lifetime of Service and Impact In 1973, Carol became a member of the Beta Sigma Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., beginning a lifelong journey of service and sisterhood. As a chartering member of the Mu Psi Omega Chapter, she helped establish the chapter in Ramstein, Germany and Kaiserslautern, Germany extending the sorority's mission of service to an international level. She was instrumental in organizing community programs, mentorship initiatives, and scholarship opportunities for young women. Her dedication to excellence, leadership, and service was evident in every role she held within the sorority, and she remained an active and engaged member throughout her life. Career at the Atlanta Community Food Bank Carol dedicated over 30 years of her professional life to the Atlanta Community Food Bank, where she became a driving force in the fight against hunger serving as the director of compliance. Through her work, she played a crucial role in coordinating food distribution programs, developing partnerships with local organizations, and advocating for food security policies. She was deeply committed to ensuring that families and individuals in need had access to nutritious meals, and her efforts significantly expanded the reach of the food bank's programs. Her work went beyond logistics, she built relationships with community leaders, volunteers, and donors to create a more sustainable and impactful approach to food assistance. Her compassion and leadership helped provide thousands of families with essential resources, and her legacy within the organization continues to inspire those who follow in her footsteps. Carol's passion for education and youth development led her to spearhead the Pilot Program at Redan High School, a groundbreaking initiative designed to support students in achieving their educational and career aspirations. Recognizing the challenges many students faced, she worked tirelessly to develop a structured program that provided mentorship, academic support, college and career readiness, and leadership training. She collaborated with teachers, administrators, and community partners to create opportunities for students who needed additional guidance and resources to succeed. Her work with the Pilot Program empowered countless young people to graduate, pursue higher education, and develop the skills necessary for their future careers. Many of the students she mentored went on to achieve great success, often returning to thank her for the impact she had on their lives. A Lasting Legacy Carol's life was defined by her unwavering commitment to family, community, and service. She was a beacon of light to everyone she encountered, offering wisdom, encouragement, and support to all who needed it. Whether through her work in food security, education, or community service, she made an indelible mark on the lives of many. She leaves behind a legacy of generosity, compassion, and leadership that will continue to inspire future generations.
