Dillis Edward Young

Dillis Edward “Ed” Young, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on August 8, 1934, Ed was the son of the late Lousie Mitchell Young and Dillis Sidney Young. He was a man of deep character, strong faith, unwavering work ethic, and an extraordinary love for his family. Ed was a third-generation builder and developer who devoted more than 40 years to his profession. Through his work, he helped shape communities throughout Rockdale, Newton, Walton, Gwinnett, and Henry counties and surrounding areas. He was a charter member of the Rockdale County Home Builders Association and served on the Board of Directors of the Homeowner’s Warranty Council of Metro Atlanta. From 2015 to 2019, he proudly served as President of the DeKalb/Rockdale Farm Bureau. A proud veteran, Ed served his country in the United States Army and United States Army Reserve from 1957 until 1962. His commitment to service and country continued throughout his life. Faith was at the heart of Ed’s life. He was a longtime member of Conyers Presbyterian Church, where he had been a faithful servant since 1963. Over the years, he served in numerous leadership roles and formed lasting friendships within the church and community. His faith, generosity, and willingness to serve others were hallmarks of the man he was. Ed was also a man who knew how to enjoy life. He was an avid gardener and woodworker and loved to travel. He found joy in working with his hands, exploring new places, and most of all spending time with the people he loved. Ed is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia Perkins Young; his son, Barry Preston Young, and his wife, Cheryl; his daughter, Cecelia Beth Patellis, and her husband, Jeff; his son-in-law, Jim Broome and his sister, Shirley Bettis He is also survived by his granddaughters, Leighton Faulkner and her husband, Claxton, and Sydney Young; and his great-grandson, Ford Faulkner. His extended family includes step-granddaughters Kristy Patellis and Katy Connell Thompson; step-grandson Logan Connell; and step-grandsons Collin and Mason Thompson, along with many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Lousie Mitchell Young and Dillis Sidney Young; his beloved infant son, Edward Brian Young, daughter, Candace Broome; and his sister, Hazel Bailey. To know Ed was to know a man who loved deeply, worked faithfully, served generously, and valued family above all else. He leaves behind not only the accomplishments of a life well lived, but also the memories, lessons, traditions, and love that will continue through the generations. He was an extraordinary man, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. His family will forever be grateful for the life he gave them and the example he set. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Conyers Presbyterian Church with Pastor Kevin Hicks officiating; interment will follow at Hillandale Memorial Gardens.
