Earl C. Williams

Earl Carl Williams Born March 27, 1934, died June 20, 2025, 91 years of age. Earl Williams was born in Fitzgerald, Georgia, in 1934, as the youngest son in a family of five children. His father, Clarence Theodore Williams-known as CT-farmed watermelon, peanuts, tobacco, and cotton. His brothers, Clarence Theodore Junior- known as Junior-Gerald, and Royce, as well as his sister Sylvia, all lived in the Fitzgerald area. The family farmed peanuts, tobacco, and cotton. Earl served as an MP in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After an honorable discharge, he returned home and married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Harris, in 1956. Earl and Joyce moved to Atlanta shortly after getting married. Known as the Wig Man, he worked as a door-to-door peddler throughout the southern and mid-Atlanta areas, selling wigs, bedspreads, and paintings. Possessing a solid acumen for business, in 1965, he started a cutting die business, Southeastern Die, with his brother-in-law, John Harris, on Peter Street in southwest Atlanta. The company was so successful that in 1975, Earl moved on to start a sister business, Design Packaging, which grew to employ roughly 100 people by 2005. Earl was as charming and likable as he was a shrewd and stoic businessman. The relationships he built over the years were a credit to his success in business. He treated people well and valued them as talented individuals. Many of his employees were his friends, and some would have followed him to a new business venture after he sold Design Packaging in 2007. However, after the sale, Earl chose to keep busy in a smaller industry with his good friend and nephew, Mercer Harris. They built and sold high-end houses on the east side of Atlanta and Buckhead together from 2008 to 2018. Earl enjoyed dancing with Joyce and their friends, going on trips to Vegas and Biloxi, fishing, and golfing. When Joyce became ill, he was a devoted caregiver for the remainder of her life. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, friend, and grandfather. He is survived by his son, Michael Williams, daughter-in-law, Pandra Williams, and two granddaughters, Jessica Williams and Vanessa Williams. He is missed and loved by many. Funeral Services will be held on July 19th at Scot Ward Funeral Home, 699 Legion Rd NE, Conyers, GA 30012. Friends and family are welcome. Visitation is at 1 pm, the service is at 2 pm, followed by a reception.
