Evelyn Graves Collins

Evelyn Graves Collins died July 26, 2024, at 92 years young. She was born in Memphis, Tennessee on August 9, 1931. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Bill Collins; sons, Billy Collins and Steve Collins; parents, John and Ruth Graves, sister, Ruth Webb and brothers, John Graves, Donald Graves and Lawrence Graves. She is survived by her daughter, Christi (Johnny) Mitcham, and son, Danny Collins; 6 grandchildren, Geoff (Jennifer) Collins, Ashley (Dustin) Thompson, Ansley (Danny) Enger, Dylan Collins, Anna Danielle Collins and Rhett Collins; 5 great-grandchildren, Peyton Thompson, Presley Thompson, Parker Thompson, Astrid Collins and Emily Anne Enger, daughter-in-law, Barbra Vlass and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend their deep gratitude to Rosemary Van Le and Sandy Turbyfield whom they all loved for the love, kindness, caregiving and companionship they provided to her in recent years. She graduated from O'Keefe High School in 1948. She and Bill married in 1950 and had 4 children. They enjoyed raising their family, traveling and even working together for years after their children were grown. She loved and was proud of her family, friends and her faith. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, jigsaw puzzles, board games, crossword puzzles, reading and cooking. Her family gathered together for a Sunday meal each and every Sunday. When she turned the cooking over to Christi, they continued to enjoy meals with her at her home, up to and including last Sunday. She loved Conyers First Methodist Church, especially the 47 years she spent almost every Sunday teaching the 4-year-old Sunday School class. She enjoyed all sports, especially college basketball and college football. She was extremely proud of her grandson Geoff for his achievements as a college football coach both on and off the field. Especially for the positive impact he had on countless young men over the years. She was an avid walker. For years, until the age of 86, she walked 4 miles per day, 5 days a week with a group of friends at Stonecrest Mall before it opened for business. In recent years, she became more limited physically, but her sense of humor, faith, spirit, feistiness and love remained strong. We will celebrate Evelyn's life on Monday, July 29 at Conyers First Methodist Church (921 N. Main Street, Conyers, 30012) with a 1:00 pm visitation followed by a 2:00 pm service. There will be no graveside service. Please don't feel limited to wearing dark colors; Evelyn loved bright colors, and the family will be wearing them in her honor.
