Harry Lamar Duke Jr

Harry Lamar Duke Jr., age 77, of Covington, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his home on September 10, 2024. Born May 8, 1947, in Jacksonville, Florida, Harry was the cherished youngest child of Ida Mae (Miller) Duke and Harry Lamar Duke Sr. He was the beloved brother of Sandra (Duke) Smith of Glassboro, New Jersey, and Julianna Duke of Richmond, Virginia. Harry's life was a testament to his dedication to his family, community, and his passion for education. As a high school teacher, pastor, and all-around scholar, he inspired and guided so many, leaving an indelible mark on their lives. He was deeply involved in his community, actively contributing in various ways, especially to those in need. A member of Covington First United Methodist Church, Harry's faith was central to his life. His devotion extended beyond his work; he was known for his sage advice, his love of fishing, and his deep appreciation of history. His presence was a source of wisdom and warmth for all who knew him. Harry will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to family, education, his generosity, and his gentle loving spirit. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. Harry is survived by his three children and their spouses: Harry Lamar Duke III and Jennifer (Lane) Duke, Rebecca (Duke) Donnaud and Brad Donnaud, and Timothy Preston Duke and Valarie (Ward) Duke. He was also a proud grandfather to four grandchildren: Bridgette Luna Donnaud, Piper Rosalie Donnaud, Arthur James Duke, and Cali Preston Duke. Harry also is survived by two former spouses: Ethel Becker Duke and Donna Price; and one stepchild, Ashley Barnes. A memorial service to celebrate Harry's life will be held at Scot Ward Funeral Home in Conyers on Saturday, October 5th. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by the service at noon.
