Ron Simpson

On October 14th, 2023, Ron Simpson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away at 87 years old. Born in Conyers (Milstead), GA on November 26, 1935 as the only child of Bennie and Inez Simpson, Ron graduated from Conyers High School and embarked on a long career in the insurance industry, most notably managing his own business, Ron Simpson Insurance Agency. Ron married the love of his life, Aileene Christian Simpson, on July 2, 1954 and she predeceased him one year ago. Ron is survived by his son Kevin (wife Sheri), son Kendall (wife Helene Erenberg), daughter Keeli Blount (husband Mark), daughter Katy Zahradnik (husband Ray), nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Ron was a lifelong resident of Conyers and spent much of his time giving back to the community. He was a Charter Member of Conyers-Rockdale Jaycees, serving in almost every capacity of the organization and being selected into Who's Who of America for his service. Other notable service contributions included being the Legal Aide to the Majority Leader of the GA House of Representatives, participation on Conyers City Council and as Mayor Pro-Tem, President of Conyers-Rockdale Chamber of Commerce (1980), Chairman of the Big Haynes Creek Impoundment Authority, charter member of the Rockdale Rotary Club, and serving in every capacity on the Advisory Board of United Way of Rockdale County including three terms as Chairman. He served as a Meals on Wheels driver for many years. Ron also was on the founding Board and served as Chairman of Phoenix Pass. Ron also served on the Board of Directors of United Way of Metro Atlanta and on the Board of Directors for Rockdale Community Bank (now Regions Bank). For all of his hard work and commitment, Ron received numerous awards, including being named as the first recipient of Conyers-Rockdale Small Business Person of the Year Award (later renamed as the Jerry Barboe Award). He also was recognized with the Kiwanis Club Citizen of the Year Award, Rotary Club Paul Harris Award, and the 1998 A.R. 'Gus' Barksdale Lifetime Achievement Award. Ron was a devout follower of Christ and loved studying the Bible. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Conyers, where he served as a Deacon and on various other committees. Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 17th from 4:00 until 6:00. A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, October 18th at 11:00. Both of these events will be held at Scot Ward Funeral Services at 699 American Legion Road, Conyers, GA 30012. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Phoenix Pass.
