James "Jimmy" Marvin Wicks, Jr. James "Jimmy" Marvin Wicks, Jr. passed away on September 9th, at the age of 69. Born on May 2nd, 1957, in Atlanta, Georgia, Jimmy lived a life marked by resilience, loyalty, and a deep love for family and friends. He was known for his quick wit, infectious sense of humor, and reputation as the ultimate prankster. Whether through a perfectly timed joke, a clever comeback, or an unforgettable practical joke, Jimmy had a unique gift for making people laugh and bringing joy to those around him. An avid sports fan, Jimmy proudly cheered for the Atlanta Braves and the Dallas Cowboys. Through good seasons and tough ones, his loyalty to his teams never wavered. Watching a game, talking sports, and sharing spirited conversations with family and friends were among the simple pleasures he enjoyed throughout his life. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Betty Wicks; his beloved son, Tyler James Wicks; his brother, David and sisters, Susan, and Lori. He is survived by his brother, Robert Wicks (Christa) and niece, Haylee, as well as many cousins. Although his son Tyler preceded him in death, Jimmy's legacy continues through his surviving grandchildren, Gaige, Cailyn, and Gavin, who lovingly knew their grandfather as "Scrappy". He is also lovingly remembered by his former wife, Ami Fry McKenzie, the mother of his son Tyler, along with dear friends. Jimmy was blessed in his later years by the friendship and generosity of Amelia and Robbie Edwards who welcomed him into their home and became an extended part of his family, as well as Richie Edwards and Connie Thompson-Schroeder Holcombe. Their kindness, support, and companionship brought comfort and joy to his life, and the family is deeply grateful for the love they showed him. Throughout his life, Jimmy cherished the importance of family, friendship, and laughter. He endured the heartbreak of losing many of those closest to him, yet he continued to share his humor, strength, and unwavering spirit with those around him. His ability to find joy in everyday moments and his determination to lift the spirits of others were gifts that will not be forgotten. To his grandchildren, Scrappy was more than a grandfather. He was a storyteller, a source of laughter, a protector, and a friend. The love he shared with them and the memories they made together will remain a lasting part of his legacy. While we mourn his passing, we find comfort in knowing that Jimmy has been reunited with his parents, his siblings, and his son. His memory will continue to live on through the family he loved the friendships he cherished, and the countless lives he touched with his humor, kindness, and unmistakable character. A memorial service will be held on September 19, 2026, at 2:00pm with visitation an hour before.
