Joseph Daniel Farmer

Joseph "Daniel" Farmer was born May 30th, 1948 in Atlanta, Ga. He passed away peacefully on October 19th, 2022. He was preceded in death by his father, David Farmer; stepfather, James Whitten; mother, Hazel Davis Farmer Whitten; and brother, Kenny Farmer. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Joanna Wolf Farmer of Conyers; daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Geoff May of McDonough; daughter, Sheila Farmer of Spokane, Washington; son, Daniel Shane Farmer of Modesto, California; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Heather and Mike Hansen of Suwanee; and stepson, Matt Sammons of Marietta. He is also survived by grandchildren, Christopher and Tammy Harvill, Reneah Mullins, Logan and Dejeanne May, Andrew and Samuel Hansen; great grandchildren, Ellie Lazor, Makenna Mullins, Maria, Jeremiah, and Elijah Harvill, and Jacob May. He also leaves his sister, Darlene Thaxton and brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Lou Ann Whitten, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Farmer was a 1966 graduate of Rockdale County High School. He was the drummer in the band, The Chessmen, and continued drumming throughout his life. He was also a boxer and baseball player. Mr. Farmer was a member of the United States Army, where he received a Purple Heart during the Vietnam War and is the recipient of the United Daughters of the Confederacy Award. He was an avid coin collector, and loved his watches, cowboy hats, and belt buckles. He loved to travel with his wife visiting islands in the Caribbean, all 50 states, and Europe. Daniel Farmer was an extremely devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved watching them all play sports; taking trips with them and watching them grow. He will be missed by all that knew and loved him. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Scot Ward Funeral Services at Green Meadow Memorial Gardens with Reverend Nolan Jackson officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday, October 29, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to the American Kidney Foundation.
