LeRay Cobb McBay October 17, 1941 - July 30, 2026 I am the Light of the world. He who follows Me will not walk in the darkness but will have the Light of life. - John 8:12 Peacefully in her sleep, Thursday July 30, 2026, our beloved Memommy, LeRay McBay, was received into Joy with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Great is thy Faithfulness! Bernice LeRay was born in 1941 in Montgomery, Alabama to Robert, Allene, and big brother Bobby Cobb. At a young age, LeRay and Bobby tragically lost their dad, and their mother remarried to George Bunch (affectionately "Daddy") adding two precious sisters, Beth and Shirley, to her family. LeRay grew up living with Mother and Daddy and some years with newlyweds Bobby and Jeannine, until graduating in 1960 from Robert E. Lee High School and pursuing higher education at Starke University School and later Brunswick Community College. Seeking to follow the Lord and praying for a Godly partner, LeRay noticed Glenn McBay at a mutual friend's pool party. LeRay, a strikingly lovely young Christian woman, captured the heart and soul of the handsome and confident Glenn McBay who proposed within 2 weeks! Their love story continued over 62 exemplary years of marriage. Together, Glenn and LeRay built a beautiful Christian family with 4 sons (Mike, Rob, Mark, and Brad) whom LeRay loved and enjoyed beyond measure. LeRay's love easily multiplied while seeing her family grow, adding 4 daughters-in-law, 10 Grandchildren (3 more by marriage), and 3 great grandchildren. Glenn and LeRay were active members serving First Baptist Church of Conyers for over 30 years. During which time, LeRay and Glenn developed deep, long lasting friendships they cherished within their church family. Uniquely, all four of her son's families were also members and worshipped together. The greatest joy of LeRay's life was her family and knowing that her children's and grandchildren's names were written in the Lamb's book of Life, each having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. As Glenn's career with State and US Fish and Wildlife Service moved the family from Conyers to Brunswick and back to Conyers, LeRay's career also flourished as a real estate specialist liquidating properties for the US Marshall Service and General Services Administration (GSA). LeRay received the US Marshall Service Distinguished Service Award in 1990 and retired in 2004 after moving to Madison, GA. LeRay was known for the sale and successful repurpose of the US government's historic coastal lighthouse properties. LeRay did everything as if unto the Lord, and the lighthouse project became aligned with her life verse John 8:12, "He who follows me. . .will have the Light of life." Our family is truly blessed that LeRay lived out her faith as a true Proverbs 31, God fearing, loving and attentive Mother and Memommy, bright and industrious, woman of noble character. We walk proudly as the future generations of the Glenn and LeRay McBay family. "Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her."-Proverbs 31:28. LeRay was predeceased by her devoted husband, Glenn McBay, mother and father, Allene and Robert Cobb, brother Robert (Bobby) Cobb, sister Beth Potter, and grandson Robert McBay Jr. She is survived by her four sons' families: Mike and Jena McBay (Haley and John Allmond (great-grand Hudson), Morgan and Andrew Couch (great-grands Brock and Brogen), Rob and Carol McBay (Riley (engaged to Wes Heinrichs) and Cole), Mark and Wendy McBay (Meredith, Austin, and Caroline), and Brad and Ami McBay (Amanda and Renn Britt, and Kayla (engaged to Aiden Fain), LeRay's sister, Shirley Ray and sister in law, Amarylis Holland.
