Mary White

Mary Lucille McKenzie White was welcomed home in heaven by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the morning of Thursday, September 11, 2014 at the age of 76. She was born in Atlanta, Georgia, February 3, 1938. Mary met a handsome young man at an ice cream youth social and married that man, James White, when she was 15. She followed him to Washington State as he served in the United States Army. They resided in the Atlanta area for several years before moving to Conyers. They celebrated every good and challenging moment of 61 years of marriage. Mary is remembered as an incredibly loving wife, mother, Mimi, aunt, sister, daughter, and friend. And by many she is known by the nickname 'Butterbean'. She was a creative and gifted painter, crafter, gardener, florist, and southern cook. Mary had an incredible talent of taking an ordinary moment and capturing attentive listeners in an original story. She had an incredible sense of humor. Mary was brave and adventurous. If she didn't know how to do something, she didn't stop until she learned how to successfully accomplish the task. She enjoyed camping with her husband and family. She would often talk her husband, 'Tater', into a cruise around town in their cherry red 1934 Ford Truck and an ice cream at Brusters. Mary never met a stranger. She could converse boldly with anyone about anything and often about everything. She had such a welcoming and inviting hospitality that all who knew her felt welcomed and loved in her home. Mary was generous of her resources and her time. She taught her children and grandchildren about prayer and believing God's promises even in challenging circumstances. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and was very confident in the assurance that God gives us in His Word that Heaven is a real place and eternal life is a gift from Him to us for those who believe. Mary taught many children's activities over the years and enjoyed assisting in a children's Sunday School class. Mary adored her church small group and Sunday School. The one thing that trumped family time was Friday night small group night. She loved her small group like family! She was a member at Crosspoint Christian Church in Conyers, Georgia. Mary is remembered, loved, celebrated, and survived by her husband of 61 years, James White; daughter, Tricia and Michael Stovall; son, Robert and Melissa White; grandchildren, Liana, Landon, Leighton, and Liam; mother, Mary McKenzie; sister, Betty Johnson; brothers, Billy and Susie McKenzie, Tommy McKenzie, and Bob and Virginia McKenzie; aunt, Martha Maddox and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and countless friends she thought of as family. Mary's celebration of life will be Saturday, September 13, 2014. Visitation and service will be held at Scot Ward Funeral Services in Conyers, Georgia. The service will begin at 1:00 pm and visitation will be 11:00 am- 1:00 pm. Mary's friend and pastor, Reverend Curt Zehner, pastor at Crosspoint Christian Church in Conyers, and son-in-law, Dr. Michael Stovall, pastor at Centennial Baptist Church in Rutledge, will be speaking in memory of Mary and in honor of our Lord Jesus Christ.
