Paul Stanley Poynter, Jr. "Buddy"

Paul Stanley Poynter, Jr., also known as 'Buddy', Dad, and Grandpa, was born April 29, 1951, in Indianapolis, IN, where he grew up appreciating speed and cars, especially red Corvettes. He entered Heaven on March 3, 2026, surrounded by his family and friends. After attending Purdue University, he joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at the Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base in Montgomery, AL. Following his honorable discharge, he moved to Conyers, GA, where he started Poynter Construction Company. He leaves behind a legacy of love for his family and was known for his kindness and his generosity. He worked hard and he taught his sons the value of hard work. He also played hard, especially with his boys and their cousins. He was just a big kid at heart, supporting his sons in their sports endeavors and playing with them. He was just as excited as they were on their adventurous vacations. He did everything with them, from driving NASCAR to throwing a football on the beach. He loved the ocean and was always ready to go on a cruise or to Gulf Shores, AL, with Cathy. He was an animal lover and all animals loved him, so much so that Cathy started calling him Dr. Doolittle. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Jeanette Laverle Kilmer Poynter; his father, Paul Stanley Poynter, Sr.; beloved cousins, Randolph 'Randy' William Poynter, Steven Ray Rusher and Andrea 'Andi' Ann Poynter McDaniel. He leaves behind his loving wife, Julia 'Cathy' Cathleen Byrd Poynter; sons, Paul 'Trace' Stanley (Alicia) Poynter, III, of Covington, GA, Kevin Jeffrey Poynter of Richmond Hill, GA; stepdaughter, Megan Cathleen Ragan; grandchildren, Kaylee Emmaline Poynter, Hudson Thomas Poynter; step-grandchildren, Marleigh Elizabeth Compton, Matthew Russell Compton; step-mother, Ingeborg 'Inge' Poynter; siblings, Robert David (Ginger) Poynter of Winter Park, FL, Brenda Sue Gossett of Cumming, GA, Brad Jeffrey (Darlene) Poynter of Buckhead, GA; brother-in-law, Dr. William Christopher (Kasie) Byrd of Mesquite, NV; much-loved nieces & nephews, Anne (Jeff), Rob, Erin (Tyler), Jason (Sharon), Lauren (Dean), Erica (Jacob); cousins, Joyce 'Bobbi' (Don), JoAnn (Dr. Ralph), Sandy (Mark), Denny (Mary), John A. (Patti), Janet (Mark), Jenny (Phil), Karen (Jim), John P. (Kim), & Candy (Allan). The family requests donations be made in Paul's honor to Rockdale County Animal Services, 1506 Rockbridge Road Conyers, Ga 30012. Memorial service will be held Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Scot Ward's Green Meadow Chapel. The family will receive family and friends Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the funeral home. The family requests that those attending wear casual, red clothes.
