Wanda Wandling Board

Wanda Wandling Board ,age 82 of Conyers, died Wednesday, November 29, 2023 in the Trauma Unit at Grady Hospital in Atlanta following a 10 year battle with terminal blood cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thad A. and Maxine M. Wandling. She is survived by her only sibling, Barbara Roberts, who was her caregiver for her last years while taking treatments for her illness. She had no children, but many cousins. Also surviving is her aunt, Geraldine M. Johns, and uncle, Gilbert Martin, both of Buffalo, West Virginia. Wanda was born on July 5, 1941, in Charleston, WV, to Thad A. and Maxine M. Wandling. Raised in Nitro, WV, she graduated class of 1960 from Nitro High School and went on to attend a 2 year Business School of Accounting. After school, she married her high school sweetheart, Russell P. Board and after moving to Conyers several years later, she met and married Gary Goddard. While still in Charleston, she was employed with a law firm. She then worked at FMC Chemical Plant until it's closing in 1971, at which time she moved to Atlanta. During her time in Atlanta, she was employed by ACSS Heating and Air Conditioning Company in Tucker for over 30 years, until the time of their closing. Wanda was the Director of the Miss Rodeo Georgia Pageant in Stone Mountain. She was a consultant for the Equestrian Chapter at the Georgia International Horse Park for the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games which were held in Atlanta. She was a big part of the Corvette Car Club in Conyers, with which she was an officer and did much of the work in planning and arranging many of the car shows, among other jobs which she enjoyed. Until this year, she held a part-time accounting job one day a week at Rockland Cargo and one day a week at the American Legion, Post 77, in Conyers. She really enjoyed her time spent at these part-time jobs. In her early years, Wanda truly loved going bowling and was on several leagues in both West Virginia and Georgia. She was a very quiet and loving person. She loved her time with friends and family, watching the Atlanta Braves, football, and movies. She enjoyed reading, cooking, and every beach trip she could take - especially to Panama City Beach, FL. Wanda was loved and will be truly missed by her only sister, friends, and other family members. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 3:00 PM at Scot Ward's Green Meadow Chapel with Pastor Joe Hughes officiating.
