Jim McGrath

January 22, 1956 - January 28, 2022

James Joseph McGrath III, age 66, of Conyers, Georgia, passed away peacefully with his loved ones by his side on January 28, 2022. Jim was born on January 22, 1956, at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his father, James Joseph McGrath Jr. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Kathy Mills McGrath; mother, Betty Rose Brown; brother, Ottis Moore (Irene); sister, Lisa McGrath; son, James Mason McGrath; daughter, Katelyn McGrath Worley (Russell); and grandson, Wyatt Elkins Worley. James, also known as Jim, worked for 30 years at Flowers Foods in Lithonia, Georgia and was known as 'the bread man' by local friends and neighbors. Jim enjoyed his free time by spending it outdoors with his wife, Kathy. Hiking, fishing, camping, gardening, skiing, and going to the beach were among many things they enjoyed. Jim was known as a 'history buff' and loved to share his knowledge. He was always hungry to learn, and was an avid reader regarding nature, science, and astrology. He was also an excellent air-guitarist, and was a dedicated fan to artists such as: Pink Floyd, the Eagles, and Jimmy Hendricks. His solo 'rock concerts' could be heard far and wide throughout the cul de sac by his children as they arrived home from school. He loved the Georgia Bulldogs and was so proud of their National Championship win. Jim lived an adventurous and vivacious life and was a kind and affectionate friend. Jim was a loving father to his children, Katelyn (31) and Mason (28). He recently welcomed a beautiful grandson back in June, Wyatt. He also was a loving owner of two cats, Bubba (11) and Cheyanne (11). The family will receive friends at Scot Ward Funeral Services at Green Meadow Memorial Gardens in Conyers, Georgia from 12:00-1:00 pm on February 12, 2022. Following, will be a memorial service from 1:00-2:00 pm at the same location. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that a donation be made at the American Kidney Fund http://www.kidneyfund.org/ or plant your favorite variety of tomato bush this spring in his memory.
