Kenneth L. Poynter

June 5, 1928 - July 4, 2019

Kenneth L. Poynter, age 91 of Conyers, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2019, just 36 days after his wife went to heaven. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Marian Poynter; parents, Rufus and Dorothy Poynter; son, Randy Poynter; brother, Paul Poynter, Sr., and daughter-in-law, Libby Poynter. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy (Mark) Harvill, Andrea (Thorn) McDaniel, Candy (Alan) McCullough; grandchildren, Shelley Allen, Michelle (Brady) Thomas, Noelle (Brad) Morgan, Randolph (Casey) Poynter, Jr., David (Elisha) Poynter, Katherine and Christopher McDaniel, Brian (Kristin) Lunsford, Brandon (Lindsay) Lunsford, Brittany (Kenny) Rowe, Brooke (Cam) Wade, Brad (Melissa) McCullough; great-grandchildren, Finley Smith, Avery Vanburen, Harper, Hayden and Collin Morgan, Riley, Grayson, Maren, Addison, Caleb Poynter, Jake, Abby, Kylie, Will and Owen Lunsford, Mackenzie Banks, Annistyn Patterson, Jackson Hamilton, Bryson and Beckham Wade, Alley and Wyatt McCullough, Gracie and Tucker Rowe; and sister, Marian Rusher. It seems to make sense that a man who so loved America and was an Air Force veteran, left this earth as fireworks were going off on Independence Day. On a day celebrated for freedom, he is now free of pain and with God, alongside his wife, son, parents, brother and friends. He held a private pilot license. Mr. Poynter was a member of Conyers Presbyterian Church. Kenneth was the owner and operator of North Rockdale Realty as a broker and developer until his retirement to Sun City Center, Florida. He was a founding member of the Rockdale Republican Party. He served as chair member of Rockdale County Board of Elections. His lifetime passion was playing golf with family and friends, discussing politics, history and sports. Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Scot Ward's Green Meadow Chapel with Rev. Kevin Hicks and Dr. Albert Myers officiating. Family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Condolences may be submitted on-line at www.scotward.com. Scot Ward Funeral Services, 699 American Legion Rd., Conyers, GA, 770-483-7216.
