Mary Louise Hudgins, 84, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, left her earthly body and ascended to heaven to dance in the arms of the love of her life, Elgie, on the evening of July 20, 2019. We will miss her beautiful smile and wonderful guidance here but rejoice knowing she is always with us from above. She was devoted to family and friends and always shared her love and spirit with everyone, including her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Mary Louise leaves behind her daughters, Barbara Clanton, Wanda Hudgins Spain, Patti Romero, and Leigh Landon (Gary); grandchildren, Christie Elliott (Jason), Valerie McFarland, Randolph Poynter (Casey), Dr. David Poynter (Dr. Elisha), Melissa Millican (Brett), Michelle Brunson (Alan), Jerry Romero, Heidi Romero, Cindy Ahonen (Sean), Brittany Landon, Jennifer Landon; great-grandchildren, Tyler (Haley) and Hayley Mote, Matthew and Kaleb Elliott, Riley, Grayson, Maren, Addison and Caleb Poynter, Kiley, Ethan, Landon and Helina Millican, Audrey, Katie and Olivia Brunson, Luke Romero, Charlotte, Parker and Jaxon Ahonen; great-great grandchildren: Libby Ruth and Waylon Mote; sister, Frances (Ray) Colemon; nieces, Raynelle (Perry) Still and Cindy (Greg) Chesna and nephew, Jim Colemon. Mary Louise was preceded in death by her parents, James Cline and Mary Lou Otis, her beloved husband, Elgie, twin sons (un-named), daughter, Mary Elizabeth (Libby); son-in-law, Randolph (Randy) Poynter and son-in-law, Terry Clanton. Mary Louise was born in LaGrange, GA on October 25, 1934, the first of two daughters. She was the epitome of what one would ever dream of wanting for their sister, mother, grandmother and friend. She was the true matriarch of the family, loving to get the family together for every birthday and religious celebration or special event. Her intelligence and humor kept us on our toes. She met the love of her life while in college at Auburn University, ran away and eloped against her parent's wishes in 1952. She left classes behind to work and be a stay at home mom while Elgie completed his degree at Auburn but she always promised to complete her degree as soon as she could. That promise was met and exceeded. She received numerous academic awards, was inducted into several Honor Societies and graduated from Georgia State University Magna Cum Laude with a BBA in 1986 and a MA a few years following. She stayed busy raising her 5 daughters and worked as a floral designer until she retired. She loved being an active grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother as well as an active member of XI Epsilon Lambda a Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Red Hat Society and her Pot Luck group. She will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends. In lieu of flowers please donate to your favorite philanthropy. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. at Scot Ward's Green Meadow Chapel with Pastor Brett Millican officiating. Family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Condolences may be submitted on-line at www.scotward.com.
