Wayne Franklin Hammonds

October 17, 1930 - April 6, 2022

Wayne Franklin Hammonds, born October 17, 1930 passed away April 6, 2022 at age 91. He was surrounded by loved ones who will strive to honor his memory by living their life to the fullest. Wayne was a lifelong resident of Rockdale County; graduated from Conyers High School class of 1947. He was a member of Union United Methodist Church. As a Corporal in the U.S. Army, stationed in Munich, Germany, he proudly served his country from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean War. Wayne had a love of cars. In his younger years he loved to cruise around and sometimes race on the backroads. One of those shiny cars lead him to meet the love of his life, Norma Young, in 1955. After traveling the southeast in sales and management, he retired from SKF Manufacturing Company (formerly MRC and TRW Bearings) after 42 years. During his retirement he enjoyed traveling with his wife, Norma. At home you could find him cheering on his Braves and Bulldogs. He will be remembered for his patience, quiet strength, and devotion to his wife and family. He celebrated personal victories, offered words of wisdom, and words of encouragement, and was always entertaining with his dry wit. Preceded in death by parents, Roy and Marie Hammonds; brother, Billy Hammonds; sisters, Carolyn South and Patricia Piper-Mashburn. He was married to Norma for 64 years; was the proud father to daughter, Dion Hammonds Corn of Lawrenceville; sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Heather Hammonds of McDonough, David and Dana Hammonds of Loganville and daughter, Mia Hammonds Wilson of Conyers. He was the loving grandaddy to Evan Hammonds, Justin Corn, Hunter Clark, Ryan Corn, Tucker Hammonds, Madison Hammonds Moore (Jordan), Mallory Hammonds, Dawson Hammonds, Riley Wilson, Winn Anglyn and expected great-grandson, Brooks Franklin Moore. Wayne was the big brother to Joyce Swann of Stockbridge, Sandra Wilson of Conyers, and Jim Hammonds of Braselton. He had numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Visitation with the family will be Monday, April 11, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A celebration of life will be held April 12, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Scot Ward's Green Meadow Chapel with Rev. Max Hill officiating; interment will follow at Union United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Union United Methodist Church or God's Table Food Ministry at Union United Methodist Church. Condolences may be submitted on-line at www.scotward.com. Scot Ward Funeral Services, 699 American Legion Rd., Conyers, GA, 770-483-7216.
