Dan Johnston Shoemaker, Jr., age 75, of Conyers, Georgia, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and friends. Born on April 22, 1951, in Charlotte, North Carolina, Dan lived a life defined by hard work, kindness, loyalty, and love for his family. He dedicated nearly 51 years of service to the telecommunications industry, beginning his career with Southern Bell, continuing through BellSouth, and eventually retiring from AT&T. His commitment and work ethic earned him the admiration and respect of all who had the privilege of working alongside him. Dan was a lifelong Atlanta Braves fan and found great joy in cheering for his beloved team. Through every season, he faithfully followed his beloved Braves and rarely missed a game. He was also one of the founding members of the Metro Atlanta Dart Association, where he built countless friendships and helped foster a community that became like family to many. Dan was a passionate deep-sea fisherman who found great joy in being out on the water and treasured every opportunity to fish with those he loved on the Gulf. Known for his generous heart and genuine spirit, Dan was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back. Once he called you a friend, you had a friend for life. Music was one of Dan's great passions, particularly Southern classic rock, and he could often be found listening to the songs that reminded him of cherished memories and good times with family and friends. Dan was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Melissa Shoemaker; his parents, Dan Johnston Shoemaker Sr. and Helen Grace Shoemaker; his brother, Dave Shoemaker; his sister, Rosalind Shoemaker Eaves; his brother-in-law, Chuck Eaves; and his nephew, Joshua Paul Sinko. He is survived by his son, Scott Johnston Shoemaker (Lisa); his daughters, Amy Shoemaker Carpenter (Brent), Traci Moore (Adam), Amanda Stanley (John), and Kaylee Hagood; his beloved grandchildren, Blake Carpenter (Anna), Bailey Carpenter (Jayden), Jessalyn Carpenter, Alexander Shoemaker, Ashton Shoemaker, Jay Stanley, Brianna Stanley, Ashton Stanley, Miranda DuBose, Faith Moore, Vincent Moore, Samantha Moore, Trenton Hagood, Darien Holley, and Cody Wren; his sister, Nancy Newell (Kevin Regan); nieces: Helen Eaves Strickland, Kelly Eaves and Winter Eaves as well as several other nieces and nephews, cousins, and countless dear friends. Even throughout his four-year battle with esophageal cancer, Dan demonstrated remarkable strength, courage, and grace. He faced each challenge with determination and continued to share his love, laughter, and kindness with those around him. Dan leaves behind a legacy of friendship, generosity, and unconditional love. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him-in every Braves game, every classic rock song, and every act of kindness shared in his honor. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at 1 P.M. at Scot Ward's Green Meadow Chapel with Pastor Brandon Bridgefarmer officiating; family will receive friends Monday, July 13, 2026 from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
