Janice Graham Smith

Janice Graham Smith, 83, of Monroe, Georgia, passed away after a long illness on July 12, 2026. Janice was born March 6, 1943, in Aragon, Georgia. She lived a good life, exemplified by the nurturing of her family, running the household as well as the family businesses. She held other jobs outside the home as well. She was a beautician in the 1960s. She was a real estate agent for Keever/Florence Realty in Conyers, Georgia in the early to mid 1970s. In the mid to late 70's, she would wake up at 4:30 AM almost every morning to make homemade sausage and biscuits for the family grocery store. People would come from all over the area to get the best biscuits in town on their way to work or school. In addition, she also served as office manager for Serra Chiropractic Life Center, located in Conyers, in the 1980s. She and her husband, Charles along with her father-in-law Marvin Smith opened Metro Mattress in Decatur, Georgia in 1979, a business that still thrives 47 years later and is still in the family. If she was able, Janice was in church if it was a Sunday (sometimes on Wednesdays, too). She was a Sunday School teacher for many years at the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Milstead, Georgia. She was a passionate follower of Jesus Christ. She was not ashamed of it. Janice was an avid reader and has read well over 5000 books of all genres. Reading was the perfect past time for her while she and her husband Charles traveled across the country. If she wasn't reading, she was crocheting. She made all types of crocheted afghans, tablecloths, clothes, decorations, etc. Her giving heart would never allow her to profit from any of her creations. They were always used or given away to those that may have wanted them. There is quite a bit of her work in others' homes. Janice had such a generous heart. If she had something she liked or needed but thought that someone else needed it more, she would give it to them, no questions asked. She could always be heard through the house singing church hymns or Elvis songs. She also enjoyed having family and friends over to her house so she could cook for them. Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Christine Graham, her sisters Bonnie Fegan, Miriam King, Donna Isom, daughter-in-law Johnette Smith and grandson Joseph Smith. She is survived by her husband, Charles M. Smith; her sons, Steven Smith, Chuck Smith and Joey Smith (Terri); her siblings Melanie Pulaski (Winston), Charles Graham (Jennifer), John Graham, Debbie Savage (Steve); grandchildren Shane Smith (Cindy), Jeff Smith, Stephanie Jackson, Misty Dailey (Gerry), Brian Morgan (Katy), Ashley Smith, Trey Smith (Rachel), Clay Smith (Emily) and Trevor Smith (Elizabeth); plus 14 great grandchildren as well as many other nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. The family would like to recognize the Because We Care Home Care company of Covington, Georgia. Anita and Lynne, among others, were so kind and thorough with their care of Janice. But over the last several years, Liliana was like another daughter to her. The family is so very grateful to them. A memorial gathering is planned for August 1, with visitation beginning at 10:30 AM and service at noon at Walton Community Church - 110 Mears St., Monroe, Georgia.
