Joyce Johnson

Joyce Johnson was born on October 5, 1946 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was the beautiful daughter of Elizabeth Foster Dixon and Charles Dixon. She passed this life, peacefully on Sunday, June 9, 2013 at 6:00 a.m. at home with her devoted husband and lifelong friend, Stone Johnson Jr. A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, Joyce "Mumzy" lived most of her adult life in the greater New Orleans area. She moved to Conyers, Georgia after hurricane Katrina to be closer to her children. She graduated from high school at Walter L. Cohen in New Orleans, LA in 1964. She attended Heald Business College in San Francisco, CA from 1964-1965. Mumzy lived her life caring for others. She was a Christian and a servant of our Lord Jesus Christ. She reflected his love through her work as an active child advocate and a mother to many children. In her early years she worked as a respiratory therapist in New Orleans, LA. Additionally, she was a certified foster parent in New Orleans, LA for 13 years. She retired from work as a pre-school teacher at Saint Raphael school in June of 2002. Some of Joyce's finest qualities were her love, warmth, thoughtfulness, and sincerity of the heart. She filled the lives of her own children, as well as all those who were in need of care. She tenderly filled each person she met with goodness, laughter, kindness, and compassion. She was a hard worker and a loving person to all who met her. During her retired years she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and her devoted husband of 43 years. She also had a passion for bingo and slot machines. Being a creole woman, one of her favorite phrases was "Laissez les bons temps rouler", which is French for Let the Good time Roll! Joyce leaves to cherish her memory: a devoted husband and caregiver, Stone Johnson Jr., three daughters, Candace Johnson Ellis, Janice Haywood White, Kimberly Johnson and a son, Stone Johnson III. She also leaves behind four grandkids, Austin Ellis, Kayla Ellis, Corinne Ellis and her youngest baby, Brennan Johnson. She left behind her nephew, Larry Dixon and a host of cousins and lifelong friends. Candace - "I will miss her wonderful cooking and her tender loving care."
