Karen Nold

Karen Sue Callaghan Nold, a longtime resident of Conyers, Georgia passed away on December 22, 2022 at Piedmont - Rockdale Hospital. She was 68 years old. Burial will be at Calgary Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa. A Celebration of Life is planned for late January in Sioux City. Karen was born February 18,1954 in Sioux City,Iowa to Marie and Dr. Ambrose James Callaghan, Jr. She graduated from Bishop Heelan High School in 1972. Karen attended Colorado Women's College 1972-1974, University of Iowa 1974-1975 and graduated from University of South Dakota 1976-1978. After college Karen went to nursing school and graduated from St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing in 1982. From 1982-1987 she was a Float Nurse and a Charge Nurse in many different areas at Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, South Dakota. In 1984 she was named Nurse of the Year. 1987-1988 Karen was the Clinical Coordinator at Elk Point Community Clinic. Karen married the love of her life Steve Nold on August 23, 1985 in Elk Point, South Dakota. They owned and lived on the Blue Feather Farm in Elk Point with her step-son Orion Nold. In 1988 they ventured out for new horizons and moved to Conyers, Georgia. They purchased their second home in Conyers where Karen resided until her death. Karen was a gifted and talented Registered Nurse. She earned many credentials including; ACLS,Certified Critical Care Credentials and an ARNA member. While in Georgia, Karen worked at Piedmont-Rockdale Hospital from 1988-1992. Karen also was a clinical instructor at DeKalb Tech LPN Program. She was the keynote speaker at the DeKalb 1990 nursing class graduation. She also worked at Atlanta Medical Center in Radiology and Oncology 1992-2002 until she retired. Karen loved to travel with her husband Steve Nold and step-son Orion. She especially loved to visit friends in Belize. They also traveled to Mexico and many places in the Caribbean. The past couple years before Steve passed, they traveled all over the United States visiting family and friends while making memories to last forever. Karen was an avid golfer, a passion she shared with her husband and son. She continued to enjoy swimming, diving and snorkeling on trips or spending time in her backyard pool. Karen liked to play her guitar with her best friend, Jena Hudson. She enjoyed teaching Jena's granddaughters the art of baton twirling. Karen enjoyed gardening and always had large vegetable and flower gardens. Karen was a horse and dog lover. She had always owned rescue dogs up until a few months before her passing. A special thanks to the Ruiz Family of Conyers for their friendship, love and care which Karen treasured. Karen is survived by her step-son, Orion Nold of Lead, South Dakota and 2 grandchildren KC And Andi Nold Lead, SD; her brother, Jim Callaghan (Beth) Huntington Beach, CA; 2 sisters, Meg Callaghan and Mary Capobianco (Mike) Clive, IA and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Nold, her parents and a sister, Kathy Callaghan Payer. Karen was loved by family and friends. She will be missed.
