Mary Brannon

Mary Brannon, lovingly known to her family as "Memommy," age 89, of Monroe, Georgia, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of love, memories, and a family who will carry her in their hearts forever. Born June 4, 1937, in Atlanta, Georgia, Mary lived a life centered around the people she loved and the faith that brought her comfort and strength. To know Mary was to know the importance of family. She loved having her family together, and those gatherings were among the happiest moments of her life. She found joy in the simple things-a good cup of coffee, the warmth and excitement of Christmas, a house filled with people she loved, and the comfort of knowing her family was close. Mary had a truly generous and selfless heart. She was always willing to give of herself to the people she loved, often putting their happiness and needs before her own. Her kindness came naturally, and the love she gave so freely will be remembered and cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Mary's faith was a quiet and steady part of her life. She found comfort in her relationship with God and carried that faith with her through both the joyful and difficult seasons of life. It was a source of peace and strength for her, and it is a beautiful part of the legacy she leaves to those she loved. Mary retired from the Department of Workers' Compensation, but her most important work was the love she poured into her family. Her greatest legacy is not found in a career or accomplishments, but in the people she loved, the memories she created, and the generations who will continue to carry her love forward. Mary was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Magdalene Mabry; her father, John Rhymes Cheatham Jr.; her stepfather, Hugh Harrison Mabry; her brother-in-law, Mike Barnett; her longtime former partner, Claude Bray; and her beloved pets, Peanut and Poptart. Left to cherish her memory are her former husband and the father of her children, Delano Brannon; her daughter, Dana (Jesse) Aldridge; her son, Jeffrey Scott Brannon; and her beloved cat, Pepper. Mary's love will live on through her grandchildren, Mallory (Brian) Thompson, Mattison Brannon, Taylor (Ryan) McCollum, Maria Brannon, Callie (Devin) Monk, and Clint Perkins IV. She was blessed with great-grandchildren who brought even more love and joy into her life: Ellie Moon, Lucy McCollum, August McCollum, and Charlotte Thompson, along with soon-to-be-born Jack Thompson. Mary is also survived by her siblings, Janet Barnett, Bonnie (Dennis) Adams, Johnny (Judy) Cheatham, and Doug (Carol) Mabry; and her nieces and nephews, Kellie (Dave) Courter, Kimberly (Stephen) Cook, Kevin Adams, Suzanne Harbin, Lynne Denney, Meredith Cantrell, John Cheatham, Pam Keels, and Tim Cheatham, as well as a host of great-nieces and great-nephews. She will also be remembered with love by her special friends Marti, Darlene, Glo, Jackie, Anne F., Ann W., Pat, Joyce, Paula, Gail, Helen, and Jimmie, whose friendship was a meaningful part of her life. Mary's story is one of family, faith, friendship, generosity, and love. She found happiness in the moments that might seem small to others but meant everything to her. Though she is no longer here to share those moments, the love she gave does not end with her passing. It lives on in her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, and friends. It will be found in family gatherings, in Christmas traditions, in stories told with a smile, and in every cup of coffee shared while someone remembers Memommy. Her family will carry her with them-in their hearts, in their memories, and in the love she gave so freely. Mary was deeply loved, and she will be deeply missed. Her memory will remain a part of her family's story for generations to come.
