Mavis Nelloms McKinley

Mavis "Joyce" Nelloms McKinley was born on November 2, 1946, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Albert Nelloms and Evelyn Jeanette Jones. She attended Lynwood Park Elementary High School, where she enjoyed basketball, track and singing in the chorus. She served many roles in various churches, to include church mother, choir and secretary under the leadership of Bishop and Pastor Mary Jean Perry, Dr. Jerry Maynard, Bishop Felton Smith, Pastor Joan Williams and Bishop Demetrius Smith. Above all, she had a fervent love for God. On June 9, 2012, she was joyfully united in holy matrimony to Outon McKinley. At that stage in her life, she was thrilled to find a partner, and they enjoyed 14 years of happiness together until God called her home. Mavis had a passion for traveling and cherished moments with her family. As a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend, she always offered kind words of encouragement to everyone she encountered. Throughout her journey, she embraced several young individuals, including Dora and Jeremy Thomas, Dr. Joane Watson, Kimiko Hart and Sophia Clark. Her joyful spirit was truly contagious. Mavis shared a unique connection with her Aunt Barbara, Uncle Dave, Aunts Jewell Nelloms and Ella Cammon. She also had an extraordinary relationship with her only son, Joseph Tate III, who remained by her side until she ascended to Heaven's gates. She was preceded in death by her father, Albert Nelloms, mother, Evelyn Jeanette Jones; sister, Albert Dean Harper and brother, Michael Hammonds. She leaves to cherish her husband, Outon McKinley; son, Joseph Tate III; grandchildren, Delisha Tate, Joseph Tate IV, Kasmeondra Smith, Jonae Tate, Jaquez Tate, Jakia Tate, Jukeria Tate; great-grandchildren, Jaelah Tate, Joseph Tate V, Aubrey Searcy, Kayden El-Amin, Kayalah El-Amin, Jariah Tate, Kamiya Tate, Nova Carmichael, Nolan Searcy, Skylar Harrison, Noah Tate; siblings, Carolyn Smith (Michael), Johnny Hammond and Brenda Hammond. Mavis also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Scot Ward's Green Meadow Chapel; interment will follow at Green Meadow Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday, June 22, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM and on June 23, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
