Thomas Olin Camp

Thomas Olin (Tommy) Camp, of Conyers, Georgia, left this world in the comfort of his own home on the morning of June 5, 2025, shortly after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. A dedicated and perpetually loving husband, fiercely devoted father, strong and protective big brother and model career flight attendant, Tommy's charm and ability to strike up engaging conversations will be missed deeply by all who knew him. Born and raised in Decatur during the idyllic 1950s, Tommy's blissful youth was largely shaped by a Norman Rockwell upbringing where close-knit neighbors felt like, and were treated as family. A 1971 graduate of Gordon High School, Tommy spent the next seven years testing the waters of life, doing things he loved, and spreading his creativity and kindness throughout the greater Atlanta area. Drawn early on to the skies, Tommy acquired his pilot's license and eventually taught as a flight instructor. He used his skilled talents as a builder and creative designer to launch a successful playset business, Sunwood Playsets, producing custom installations for schools, municipalities, and private clients. In what little spare time he had, he shared his love of learning with children as a substitute teacher. It was one day while teaching that a Delta jet caught his eye, soaring overhead the Georgia landscape, solidifying his desire to enter the airline industry full time and in August of 1978, Tommy became a career flight attendant for Delta Air Lines. For the next 42 years, Tommy did what he did best in life: making people feel at home and feel like family. Working alongside crews that became like kin, Tommy truly loved his Delta coworkers, and the people he worked for - his passengers. Often flying repeat routes and schedules, regular passengers often remembered Tommy and many soon became friends. His special knack in connecting with others was a true gift. The saying goes, "if you do what you love for a living, you will never work a day in your life," and that was 100% true of Tommy Camp's career with Delta. It was a love affair lasting over four decades. When not flying, spare time for Tommy offered moments when his creative talents would flow freely. Quality woodworking began in the 1990s with the creation of custom Adirondack furniture and unique sculptures. Some twenty years later, through the encouragement of a friend, he embraced a new talent working with acrylic paint on canvas. Energy not dedicated to making art was saved for his beloved Georgia Bulldogs. Football game days were sacred times in the Camp household. Aside from his life in the sky and his love for art, Tommy's greatest forever passion, and truest love was family. As much as he enjoyed flying, there was truly no place like home for Tommy Camp. Being at home with his family in his sight made him the happiest he could be. Cocktails on the porch in Good Hart, Michigan where he enjoyed family summers, presiding over perfectly cooked 'Tommy Burgers' on the grill, or doting on friends and family staying under his roof - these were the moments he loved and the life he embraced. Tommy leaves behind a lifetime of loves - wife, Barbara Camp; son, Jack Camp (Elizabeth); sisters, Marlyn Binkley and Melissa (David) Lockridge; brother, Mark Mumford (Karen); many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and, of course, a lifetime of great friends and crew members.
