Vernard Winton, Sr.

Vernard Winton, Sr., son of Boyd Boswell and Louse Winton was born and raised in Collierville, TN, where he attended local schools, graduating from Fayette Ware High School, Class of '72. He accepted Christ at a young age and continued serving the Lord while at New Testament Church in Milwaukee, WI, Christ The Rock, Memphis, TN and Golden Jerusalem M.B. Church, Piperton, TN. Vernard also known as "Nob", "Fat", "Nard", "Vern" was one-of-a-kind, as he often said, "The best that did it, and got away with it" was known for his infectious laugh, huge sense of humor, quick sayings, grill skills, and love for his family. Most of all, Vernard loved the Lord, walked upright, and was a humble man. He was employed at Ryder, Milwaukee Sanitation Dept., Ozark and the US Postal Service where he retired. Often when seen, he donned his postal uniform. He loved to travel, cut his lawn, joke, read his bible, work on cars, play bass guitar, and watch sports and westerns. He met and married Karen, and for thirty-six years they built a loving home and beautiful life together with children Keta, Stevie, Vee and Rone, and precious moments with their grandchildren Torian, Cameron, Queen, Edison, and Veelah. Vernard passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025, surrounded by loved ones after a courageous battle with cancer. He fought the good fight and received his heavenly prize. Proceeding him in death his parents Boyd Boswell and Louise Winton, grandparents, wife Karen Winton, and sister Sharon Kay Winton. Vernard, Sr. is survived by children Naketa Winton-Mimes (Johnny), Steve Hardin Jr., Vernard Winton, Jr., and Eddie Rone; grandchildren Kaiya, Torian, Demetrious, Cameron, Hezekiah, Queen, Edison, Veelah; brother Fletcher Winton and sister Delores Boswell-Johnson; Mother-in-law Emma Russell, and a host of loving relatives and dear friends. Continue to honor his legacy by living humbly. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 20, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Scot Ward's Green Meadow Chapel; interment will follow at Green Meadow Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
